reporting posts
just had a quick question about reporting posts.... in the rules it says we should report posts with dead links..... but when someone reports a post, are there a choice of reasons why its being reported? my question involves posts in wrong section of the music forums..... ie Backstreet Boys in Rap/hiphop rather than in pop.... eagles in country rather than rock (as mellow as they are they are classic rock) anyway, i just didn't want to report the posts if that indicated bad links.

Yes when you report a post it does allow you to supply a reason why you're reporting them. Also we love it when our members take time to report posts for whatever reason it might go against our rules here such as posts in wrong sections and what not. The staff tries to keep up with stuff like that but some posts still pass through the cracks and it is upon our members to grab our attention when stuff like that happens.

yeah, i've moderated and admin on a few boards.... its a never ending job
then you get differences in opinion about which classification certain music belongs..... what i call rap another may call rock, etc....

What are OT posts and where exactly is the "Chit-Chat" section on this board?

It's a few months late for me to be commenting on this, but that's a good point, 'cause when you click on the icon to report a post it gives very specific reasons why a post should be reported and that doesn't include dead links. It took a while for me to realize I should report them anyway...
I dunno if it's possible to change the instructions that pop up (hell the last time I ran a site it was running OPUS, so that shows how out of touch I've become, lol) to include dead links, etc. when someone reports a post, but it may be a good idea.

There might be only a few things that it states you can report posts for, but you can put whatever you want to in the comments. The staff checks it and sees why its reported. I don't believe it can be changed I'm pretty sure its just a VBulletin thing. But hell someone could report a post for "the user posted in a color I don't like" and that's fine with us, doesn't mean it'll necessary be changed.
But reporting dead links is definitely something we want people to do, its something we actually encourage users to do because with the size of the site its hard to do it with just the staff trying to cover all the posts.
